The project was developed to allow re-provision of St. Paul’s Way GP Practice within modern facilities at William Cotton Place Development, providing additional primary care capacity and improved services in the North East Locality of London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Bart’s Health Locality Community Nursing Team will also occupy the William Cotton Place Practice in line with future redevelopment.

The Primary care scheme involves the renting of first floor shell and core space within a mixed use commercial development with residential apartments located in upper floors. The improvement in communication by co-locating different services will increase efficiency within the teams and improve patient care.

Assessment of the design at DQI Mid Design stage indicated the area with greatest room for improvement was Access, but it was performing quite well. The area on Forms and Materials was given the lowest priority which was expected given the little control over the design of internal and external works as this is a rented existing building. The proposals were generally well received by all stakeholder groups. The design is achieving the required characteristics which fulfill the purpose and aspirations set. Overall there was a high level of satisfaction with design proposals, a close rapport between Clients and Design Team and shared confidence in the quality of designs.
