Assessment Group

These are the people from the demand-side who have been invited by the DQI Leader to assess the building by taking part in the workshops and completing the online questionnaires.

Building Research Establishment. An independent consultancy who advise clients on construction, environment, fire and risk, and certification.

Briefing record

A document produced by the DQI Facilitator containing the results from the online questionnaire as well as priorities and issues that emerge from workshop discussions.

Briefing tool

An online questionnaire used at the briefing stage workshop to gather consensus and record priorities. A pdf version can be printed out and answered offline.

CABE

Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment. The government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public space.

Construction Industry Council is the representative body for professionals in the construction industry.

DQI Administrator

The DQI Administrator is appointed by the DQI leader to assist in the organisational aspects of the DQI process. This role is optional but strongly recommended as it provides vital support to the DQI Leader. If this role is not taken by a separate individual then their duties are shared by the Leader and the Facilitator.

DQI Facilitator

A DQI Facilitator is an accredited professional who has been trained in facilitating workshops at all stages of the building process. They are independent of the building project and mediate between the assessment group and the technical design and construction teams at the various workshops.

DQI Leader

A DQI Leader is an individual appointed to champion the DQI process. Their primary responsibility is to form and motivate an Assessment group to take part in the workshops and the online questionnaires and act as the main point of contact for the DQI Facilitator.

DQI Process

An on-going assessment of a building project from its conception to a point after its completion. It is a journey that is enabled through facilitated workshops and use of online tools.

DQI Workshops

Sessions where the different stakeholder groups can communicate opinions and exchange ideas about a new building or refurbishment. These sessions are mediated by a DQI Facilitator and rely on the online tools to harvest opinions and open discussion. Workshops occur at the various stages of a building project.

An online questionnaire, used at all stages of a building project to assess a design or a building.

Online tools

There are two distinct tools: the briefing tool and the evaluation tool. Assessment groups in a workshop use the tools to understand their priorities and to rate a design.

RIBA building stages

Royal Institute of British Architects. Building projects exist in 5 distinct stages defined by RIBA. The stages are A - Preparation, B - Design, C - Pre-Construction, D - Construction, and E - Use.
