Building services engineers are concerned with the functional aspects of the building such as the air-conditioning, lighting, etc. It is vitally important that they understand not only the architects vision but also the practical needs of the buildings users. Building services have a very large impact upon the quality of life of the building’s occupants.
Building Services Engineers' responsibilities in the DQI process:

- Assist the architect/designer in the presentation of the designs to the workshop attendees
- Provide practical information about the building’s services to the Assessment group to help them understand the current design
- Provide information about the systems intended for the building allowing the assessment group to assess their worth
- Understand the priorities of the Assessment group
- Consult with the architect to ensure that any refined designs are achievable and meet the requirements of the building’s users
