Following the successful launch of the DQI it was observed that a large percentage of people using the DQI were from the public sector applying it to school buildings. For this reason a tailored version of the DQI was produced specifically for use on schools. The Design Quality Indicator for schools was developed by the CIC in partnership with the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and launched in 2005.
