Engineers work closely with the architect to deliver the building they have designed. As their name suggests Structural engineers are concerned with the physical structure of the building: the foundations, the walls, the roof, etc. It is vitally important that they understand not only the vision for the building but also the practical needs of the buildings users.
Structural Engineers responsibilities in the DQI process:
- Attend the DQI workshops
- Assist the design team in the presentation of the designs to the workshop attendees
- Provide practical information about the building’s construction to the Assessment group to help them understand the current design
- Provide information about the building materials, their capabilities, strengths and benefits
- Understand the priorities of the Assessment group
- Consult with the architect to ensure that any refined designs are achievable and meet the requirements of the building’s users
