The Design Quality Indicator was launched in 2002. The development was led by CIC with sponsorship and support from many government and industry bodies with an interest in improving the built environment. Involved parties include the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), Constructing Excellence, the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), and the Strategic Forum for Construction (SFfC). The Design Quality Indicator is a generic tool that can be used on a wide variety of buildings.
