Facilitator course

DQI Facilitators are professionals who are independent of a building project and facilitate client teams and their consultants using DQI. The facilitators course must be completed successfully to become a DQI Facilitator and join the DQI Facilitators register.

Good facilitation is key to the successful application of DQI, because of this CIC strongly recommend using a DQI Facilitator when applying DQI. In 2007 over 80% of DQI workshops used a registered DQI Facilitator.

You can read about what clients say about using a DQI Facilitator by clicking here.

DQI facilitators in training

Who should undertake this course?

DQI Facilitators are usually construction professionals with a strong commitment to improving the design quality of buildings and a proven ability working with stakeholder groups especially during the briefing stages. Some professionals from other backgrounds such as education have also completed this course because they have acted as a construction client in their own right on a number of occasions.

If you are a client or design champion looking to learn more about DQI for your own building projects you may find the DQI Leaders workshop more suitable. Click here for further details.

Course structure

To become a registered facilitator then you will need to:

1. Submit an application to be assessed. Your application must demonstrate how you comply with the skills and competencies set out in the DQI facilitator standard.

2. Your application will then be assessed by a panel of three assessors who are already DQI Facilitators.

If your application is approved you will then:

3. Attend the first stage training , a 1 day event to learn about when and how to use the DQI and DQI for Schools tools online toolkit. The event starts with a site visit, is a mixture of presentations, practical debate and online exercises.

4. Attend the second stage training , a 1 day event where you will be given a ‘Facilitators Handbook’ which defines the roles and responsibilities of a facilitator and how to liaise with the DQI Leader. The event is a mixture of practical work, group discussion and role-play.
